The Goondiwindi Pastoral and Agricultural Society is looking for members of our community who wish to represent the Goondiwindi Show Society in the Miss Showgirl Awards & Rural Ambassador Awards.
These competitions are a time-honoured tradition and many fine young men and women throughout the years have represented our region, and local show- Your Community Event.
For the Miss Showgirl Competition we are looking for ladies aged from 6 years to 27 years, who presents herself well, is confident in her own skin and can promote life in Goondiwindi. These Ladies would be competing for the titles of Miss Showgirl.
Ladies are encouraged to enter one of the five categories in the 2019 Showgirl Awards,
Miss Showgirl (ages 18-27 years inclusive, unmarried with no children), The winner of the Open Miss Showgirl Competition will have the opportunity to compete at the Darling Downs Sub chamber finals at the Toowoomba Royal Show in the following year.
Miss Teen Showgirl (ages 14-17 years inclusive),
And two new categories have been introduced this year
Miss Junior Showgirl (ages 10-13 inclusive years)
Miss Mini Showgirl (ages 6-9 years inclusive).
All entrants are encouraged to raise funds for the Show Society and whilst doing this promote the Community Event, which is held by the Community – For the Community.
Fundraising opportunities will begin as soon as you register.
Showgirl entrants will judged on their community spirit, general knowledge, presentation and manner by a panel of judges. All questions will be age appropriate and in a comfortable setting.
The Goondiwindi Show Society is also looking for entrants for The Rural Ambassador Awards. This is a competition for both young men and women, between 20 and 29 years of age who are actively involved, or demonstrate a readiness to become actively involved in, their local show or have a strong affiliation towards agriculture and have knowledge about current rural issues pertaining to their local area, the State and Australia.
Rural Ambassador entrants will be judged on their show and community involvement, general and rural knowledge, personality, ambitions, communication skills, presentation and their public presentation.
As with the Miss Showgirl Awards there are multiple categories for Rural Ambassadors;
Rural Ambassador (ages 20-29 years inclusive), The open Rural Ambassador winner will have the opportunity to compete at the Darling Downs Sub chamber final in Toowoomba the following year.
Rural Youth Ambassador (ages 17 – 19 years inclusive),
And three new categories have been introduced this year
Rural Teen Ambassador (ages 14 – 16 years inclusive)
Rural Junior Ambassador (ages 10 -13 years inclusive)
Rural Show Ambassador (ages 6 – 9 years inclusive)
All entrants will be required to attend the Goondiwindi Show – Pre-Show Awards Dinner and Presentation Evening. Which will be held in April 2019.
The winner of the 2019 Open Miss Goondiwindi Showgirl Award and 2019 Open Rural Ambassador Award will gain automatic eligibility for the Sub Chamber Finals to be held at the 2020 Toowoomba Royal Show.
From there, the winner will go on to contest the State Finals at the Brisbane Royal Show in August 2020.
Becoming part of the either of these Awards encourages and promotes the Agricultural Show Movement to Queensland Youth. As well as highlights, how easy it is to be a part of a community group, event and community facility such as our Show.
The competitions are not a beauty contest, nor is it an intelligence quest. It is an award that is presented to young Queenslanders who raise the profile of Queensland shows. The award provides an opportunity for entrants to excel in leadership, community involvement and confidence. The experience creates opportunities for young members of our community in work life and confidence in their personal life.
Entrants of both competitions are encouraged to fundraise or assist in promoting the competitions to assist with cost associated in running the competitions as well as any surplus funds will be spent within the Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Charter, being to continue to develop the Showground facility for our Community, visitors and user groups.
